Shop Terms

These Shop Terms cover anything you buy from the PleinScout shop at store.pleinscout.com or pleinscout.com/shop. You're buying from PleinScout LLC, a California limited liability company in San Diego ("PleinScout," "we," "us"). Our Terms of Use (pleinscout.com/terms-of-use/) and Privacy Policy (pleinscout.com/privacy-policy/) also apply. By placing an order, you agree to these terms.

1. Checkout and payment

Checkout, payment, tax and shipping are handled by Shopify. Your card details go to Shopify's secure checkout and never touch our website. You must be 18 or older to place an order.

2. Prices and availability

Prices are in US dollars. If you're in Canada, you'll see prices and pay in Canadian dollars, converted at the current rate. Sales tax and shipping are added at checkout. If a price or product is listed by mistake, or an item turns out to be unavailable, we may cancel the order and refund you in full. We'll tell you if that happens.

3. Pre-orders

Items marked "pre-order" haven't shipped from us yet. Each one shows an estimated ship date. Field kits are expected to ship in April 2027, when the custom PleinScout field bags arrive.

• You pay in full when you order.
• You can cancel a pre-order for a full refund any time before it ships. Email help@pleinscout.com with your order number.
• If we can't ship by the date we gave you, we'll email you before that date with a new date. You can then cancel for a full refund, or keep your order.

4. "Ship my supplies now"

For field kit orders shipping to the US, you can add "Ship my supplies now" for $20. We send the parts of your kit that we have on hand, usually the paint and gear, within two weeks, and the rest (including the field bag and anything still being made, such as an engraved palette) when it's ready. The $20 covers the extra shipment. If we can't send anything early, we'll refund the $20.

5. What's in a kit

Each kit's page lists what's in it. If a maker discontinues or delays an item, we may swap in one of equal or better quality. If the change is a big one, we'll tell you before shipping and you can cancel for a full refund.

6. Pro that comes with a kit

Each field kit includes one year of PleinScout Pro, and "Make it Lifetime" upgrades that to lifetime Pro. We email you how to turn it on, and the year starts the day it's turned on, not the day the kit ships. Pro is tied to one PleinScout account. If you cancel a kit, the Pro that came with it ends. Lifetime Pro is described in our Terms of Use (pleinscout.com/terms-of-use/).

7. Gift cards and the printable gift card

Kit orders come with a printable card you can wrap as a gift. It's a note, not a gift card, and it has no cash value. PleinScout gift cards bought in the shop don't expire and can't be exchanged for cash, except where the law requires it. Pro gift codes can be used once, have no cash value, and don't expire.

8. The Founder discount

Founding Scouts (anyone with lifetime Pro) save 20% on shop orders, for life. Field kit buyers save 20% while the year of Pro from their kit lasts. The discount applies automatically when you sign in to the shop with the same email you use in the app. One discount applies per order. Some items, such as those a maker requires us to sell at a set minimum price, may be excluded, and this will be shown on the item or at checkout. We may end the discount for accounts closed for breaking our Terms of Use.

9. Shipping

We ship from San Diego to the US and Canada. Rates are shown at checkout, and US orders of $89 or more ship free. Each item's page says when it ships: art supplies usually ship within 5–7 business days, and pre-orders ship on the date shown. Once your order is with the carrier, delivery times are up to them, but if a package is lost or arrives damaged, email us and we'll make it right.
Orders to Canada go by USPS international mail, and Canada Post delivers them. Free shipping is for US orders only. Our prices don't include Canadian GST/HST, import duties or Canada Post's handling fee. Canada Post may collect these when your package arrives. Delivery usually takes one to two weeks after we ship. If you return something from Canada, you pay the return postage, unless the item arrived damaged or wrong.

10. Returns and refunds

You can return unused items within 30 days of delivery. See our refund policy at checkout for the details. Opened paint, used paper and Pro that's already been turned on can't be returned, unless the item arrived damaged or wrong. Pre-orders can be canceled any time before they ship (section 3).

11. Product safety

Art supplies are for adults and are not toys. Some paints contain pigments listed under California's Proposition 65, and those items carry a warning on their page and label. Follow each maker's label and safety directions. Oil kits contain only non-flammable mediums.

12. Warranties

Products are covered by their makers' warranties. If anything we sell arrives defective, contact us within 30 days and we'll replace or refund it. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we don't make other warranties about the products.

13. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any order is limited to what you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that can't be waived.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. The version in effect when you place an order applies to that order.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of California. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of San Diego County, California, unless the law requires otherwise.
