Questions painters ask
What paper works best? A mid-tone toned paper such as Canson Mi-Teintes, so black charcoal gives the darks and white gives the lights.
How do I stop charcoal smudging on the way home? Spray it with a workable fixative, or slip a sheet of glassine over the drawing.
Sticks or pencils? Sticks cover big shapes fast. Pencils give cleaner lines and details. Many artists use both.
